As in years past, this year’s all-virtual 2022 ONC Tech Forum will feature industry perspectives on the progress made in health IT over the past year, and highlight how we can continue to advance health technology to improve patient care, health equity, data exchange, and interoperability. They will discuss how ONC and stakeholders are working together to meet today’s challenges, while laying the groundwork for a future digital health care system that advances health care delivery, public health, and research to make the nation’s health better through the use of health IT.
This year’s event will be held virtually over three consecutive “Forum Fridays” on September 9, 16 and 23.
Each “Forum Friday” will focus on a specific area within health IT that ONC leads on behalf of HHS, serving as the secretary’s principal advisor on the development, application and use of health IT.
What’s in store each day?
September 9: Day 1 will focus on health IT data standards, including an emphasis on public health. You will hear about data modernization initiatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), advancing FHIR API standards, and initiatives launched by the HHS to train the next generation of the nation’s public health informatics workforce!
September 16: Day 2 of the Tech Forum will showcase how the health IT standards and experience from real-world implementations are guiding innovation activities in industry and government. We have an exciting slate of accomplished experts who are leveraging health IT in areas such as clinical decision support, patient-generated health data, and social determinants of health.
September 23: Day 3 will be devoted to ONC’s certification and testing activities, focused on both the upcoming compliance deadlines for the ONC Cures Act Final Rule and on testing tools to support rapid adoption of advanced health IT standards. ONC staff will provide an overview of the resources available to developers to meet the requirements in the Cures Act Final Rule, including Real World Testing. We also hope to hear experiences from attendees on implementing Cures Act requirements with a goal to make future improvements in the program.
Tech Showcase: In addition to the three “Forum Fridays,” you can also check out the Tech Showcase, a library of videos and demos from health IT innovators, as well as the ONC team, highlighting some new and exciting work being done to advance digital health and improve care.
