By Chris Emper – On July 13, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a 1,920-page proposed rule that would update payment policies and programs regarding Medicare payments to physicians and other providers under the Physician Fee Schedule on or after January 1, 2024.
CMS announced that the Medicare Shared Savings Program saved money for Medicare while continuing to support high-quality care. Specifically, the program saved Medicare $1.8 billion in 2022 compared to spending targets for the year.
By Keith Carlson – With Health Level Seven (HL7®) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) application programming interfaces (APIs) now widely available across the United States, health IT developers and application developers should keep up-to-date on API security work and practice good API security hygiene when implementing applications and tools that leverage FHIR APIs.
On May 1, 2023, CMS opened the Hardship Exception application period for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals that participated in the Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program in calendar year 2022. The deadline for CAHs to submit a Hardship Exception application is September 1, 2023.
