Is Your Supply Chain Ready for Coronavirus? – by Irv Lichtenwald, Chief Executive Officer, Medsphere – Chances are good the face mask you’re wearing or have on hand (just in case) was made outside the United States, maybe in China. In calmer times, that wouldn’t matter much. But when Chinese officials are trying to stem a global pandemic that started in a Chinese city, how likely is it that the country will continue to export face masks at the same rate? This isn’t a hypothetical. With the spread of COVID-19, aka, coronavirus, we know the answer is not very, and that it impacts a great deal more than face masks.

There’s a willingness to help, a eagerness to volunteer, and a sense of belonging by banding together for a common cause. Yes there are stories about hoarding toilet paper and purell, but those are minor distractions compared to the good things happening around us.

As the coronavirus upends virtually every aspect of modern life, the world is relying on healthcare professionals to simultaneously protect infected COVID-19 patients, protect themselves, prevent the spread of the virus to other patients and the community at large, and still maintain essential healthcare services for non-infected patients, all while medical resources become strained beyond anything we’ve experienced before.
