The EHR Incentive data comes from the CMS February report.
- Over 211,500 eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) have registered for the Medicare and/or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs since January 2011
- Over 20,000 registered for the Medicare and/or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs in the month of February
- Over 62,000 EPs, eligible hospitals, and CAHs have been paid for successfully participating in the Medicare and/or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs
- Over $3.8 billion has been paid in Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Program payments to EPs, eligible hospitals, and CAHs across the country
- Over $738 million was paid in the month of February
- The top three states receiving the most incentive money are: Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
- The top three states with active registrations are: California, Texas, and Florida.
AMA reports on EHR adoption rates from SK&A marketing research firm’s ongoing study. SK&A is currently contracted by the ONC to monitor and report EHR adoption.
- Â 55% of U.S. medical practices are solo practices. Only 1% are practices of 20 or more doctors.
- Medical practices with 1 to 2 providers are the fastest growing group for EHR adoption. Adoption rates in the second half of 2011 went from 30.8% to 36.9%. This is the first time this group has beat out the larger practices.
- Adoption in practices of 26 or more physicians grew from 75.5% to 77.2% in 2011.
- Physician practices as a whole increased EHR adoption from 40.4% in July 2011 to 45.6% in January.
