The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the most recent numbers for the EHR Incentive programs. Here are some Program-to-date highlights from this latest CMS report – March.
- Active registrations of those completed totaled 390,357 breaking down with 261,367 Medicare EPs, 124,657 Medicaid EPs, and 4,333 hospitals.
- 49 of the 50 States have open Medicaid registrations. Hawaii has not begun their program but has stated it’s intention. Note from CMS: Just as state timelines for launching the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program vary, so do state timelines for other incentive program milestones, including when a state disburses its first incentive payment and when it starts collecting meaningful use attestations from eligible providers. - A total of 259,630 unique providers have been paid with breakdown of 160,890 Medicare EPs, 83,765 Medicaid EPs, 3,858 eligible hospitals, and 11,117 Medicare Advantage Organizations for EPs.
- 9,211 EPs have received a HPSA bonus payment.
- 1,988 hospitals have received payments under both Medicare and Medicaid (of those, 219 were CAHs).
- A total of $13,710,402,219 has been paid out in the program to date.
- Medicare EPs have been paid $3,184,095,294 with the majority of those, Doctors of Medicine or Osteopathy receiving $2,889,898,791.
- Medicaid EPs have been paid $1,869,162,757 with the majority of those, Physicians receiving $1,356,056,130.
- Eligible hospitals have been paid $8,467,707,681 with Medicare only $351,451,347, Medicaid only $223,434,487, and Medicare/Medicaid $7,892,821,847.
- Medicare Advantage Organizations For Eligible Professionals have been paid $189,436,486.
- Medicaid EHR Incentive payments began in January 2011 and Medicare EHR Incentive payments began in May 2011.
