Chicago, IL, January 24, 2013
Chicago healthcare information technology (HIT) company EMRapproved has named Kevin Donnelly as chief executive officer (CEO). Donnelly will implement an aggressive growth plan for the company, which recently moved from a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) to C Corporation status under his tenure as the company’s former chief operating officer (COO). Donnelly takes over from former CEO David Gorter, who will stay on as the company’s president and chairman of the board.
“Kevin brings extensive corporate healthcare experience and strategic vision to his new role at EMRapproved,” said Wendy Whitmore, the company’s chief information officer and managing partner. “His experience positions our company well during an intense growth period as electronic medical records become increasingly important in the healthcare sector. It’s a transformative time in healthcare and EMRapproved is providing invaluable resources to the HIT industry.”
As CEO, Donnelly will focus on four core offerings related to electronic medical records (EMRs) and the adoption of HIT: content, community, curriculum and consulting. He will lead the company’s efforts to:

- Address the knowledge gap and HIT workforce shortages by expanding the company’s online education, training and continuing education offerings
- Provide 4MedPro Network community of HIT professionals comprehensive products and services linking them to providers and companies in need of their skills
- Establish the 4Med Marketplace as the premier site on the web for information, education, products and services related to EMRs and HIT, as a hosted solution for best-in-class healthcare partners
“Healthcare is under pressure and rapid adoption of health information technology is imperative to drive improved clinical outcomes, manage cost and comply with regulations,” said Donnelly.”That’s why I’m excited about working with the EMRapproved team, as we have an outstanding team of partners and resources to assist healthcare stakeholders throughout the long journey to fully integrate HIT into the provision of healthcare.”
Donnelly, 53, of Hinsdale, Ill., joined EMRapproved in January 2012 as a revenue model consultant and was quickly recognized for his significant contributions to the company with his appointment to COO.
An internationally recognized expert in HIT, he has more than 30 years of experience as a healthcare executive and entrepreneur, primarily in the areas of distribution, software, clinical data management and consulting. Prior to EMRapproved, Donnelly co-founded NexMed Solutions to provide innovative solutions to healthcare organizations in reducing cost and improving outcomes by leveraging health information technology through a portfolio of small and midsized companies. Prior to NexMed, Donnelly worked with the College of American Pathologists where he was responsible for the management of SNOMED CT, the most comprehensive, multilingual clinical terminology for EMRs in the world. He was instrumental in the creation of International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO), a Copenhagen, Denmark based not-for-profit association owned and governed by its 19 member nations, which owns and maintains the terminology.
Donnelly has also held senior management positions at Procter & Gamble, Cardinal Health, Inc., Baxter International, and American Hospital Supply Corporation. He was also co-founder and COO of Business Logic Corporation, a venture-backed software and services company.
