Feb. 29 EHR Incentive Program Deadline

CMS Reminders on EHR Incentive Program Dates

CMS has issued a reminder on important upcoming dates in the EHR Incentive Program for Eligible Professionals. The reporting period ended on December 31, 2011 for EPs who participated in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program in 2011. If you participated in the program this means you completed 90 days of meaningful use with a certified EHR by the end of 2011. EPs can register and attest to their 2011 90-day reporting period up until February 29, 2012 and receive an incentive payment for calendar year 2011.

February 29, 2012 is also the last day EPs may submit any Medicare Part B claims from calendar year 2011 giving the allowed 60 day period. EP Medicare incentive payments are calculated on claims submitted through Part B and are allowable charges for covered professional services. An EP is paid 75% of the 2011 service date claims submitted up to $24,000, making the maximum initial incentive payment, $18,000. If EPs have not met the $24,000 threshold by February 29, 2011, CMS expects to issue incentive payments in April 2012 for 75% of the submitted charges.

2011 Medicaid participants will be paid by the individual States. Contact your State Medicaid program for details of payment schedules. For complete list of current State Medicaid program, visit the CMS Medicaid State Information page.
