News and Updates from Datapalooza IV
The Health Data Initiative (HDI) was launched in 2010 by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) which has now grown into the Health Data Consortium. The Consortium includes 17 organizations that encourage innovators to utilize health data to develop applications to raise awareness of health and health system performance and spark community action to improve health. Here are some news and announcements from the year’s Health Datapalooza in Washington DC for the last two days.
NIH, ONC, and EPA award $100,000 to winner of health and technology challenge
New technology that creates a personal, portable, and wearable air pollution sensor, developed under the My Air, My Health Challenge, was announced today at the Health Datapalooza in Washington, D.C. The grand prize of $100,000 was awarded to Conscious Clothing. Read the National Institute of Health announcement.
Datapalooza: HHS Unveils Medicare Outpatient Costs
Healthcare cost data released by the federal government Monday includes estimates for average hospital charges for 30 types of outpatient procedures. The data released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services includes county-level data on Medicare spending and utilization for the first time, as well as selected data on hospital outpatient charges. Kaiser Permanente Invites Software Developers To Build Apps
“We’re looking for people to develop apps that offer value to our members” says Philip Fasano, Kaiser Permanente’s chief information officer. He made the announcement at Health Datapalooza, a conference that brings together the government, companies, and non-profits to encourage the release of data and innovation in the health care industry.
