Grant will support use of big data to meet or exceed quality of care requirements
Health Fidelity, a healthcare big data company and technology leader in clinical natural language processing (NLP), has received a grant from the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) to support research in big data analytics and data-driven healthcare.
NSF awarded Health Fidelity the grant to address automated cohort identification, using data from electronic health records (EHR) to meet quality of care requirements within meaningful use and accountable care organizations. Healthcare organizations today spend millions to scale manual processes to achieve basic quality measures and limited claims information. Automating the process will allow a far more affordable, robust, and effective approach.
Clinical content needed to properly assess the patient’s risk and determine the best treatment available is within clinical narrative notes, but without the proper tools, the knowledge remains unavailable and unused. For clinicians and hospitals with massive amounts of unused electronic clinical information, which could improve the quality of care, the implications can be higher than expected mortality rates and rising medical costs.
