SBG Technology Solutions was recently awarded a contract extension with the Department of Veterans Affairs to continue to support the execution of the VistA Evolution Program by providing Program Management Office (PMO) support, technical consulting, financial, acquisition and strategic communications support. VistA Evolution is the largest enhancement to an IT healthcare system to ever be undertaken, anywhere, and will provide interoperability and modernized clinical capabilities to the VA electronic health record. The updated VA system will be interoperable with the electronic health systems of the Department of Defense and other healthcare partners to enhance patient-centered, team- and evidence-based care.

Modernizing Medicine announced that EMA Dermatology™ was named a finalist for the 2014 SIIA Software CODiE Awards for Best Healthcare IT Solution. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier award for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence for 29 years. Judges select finalists based on presentations they receive of the nominated products, which are then voted on by active SIIA members to determine the winners.

T-System Inc. announced Citizens Medical Center, a hospital in Victoria, Texas, will implement T-System’s emergency department information system (EDIS), EV™, and patient transition management solution, Care Continuity™. Citizens Medical Center has remained ahead-of-the-curve for adopting sophisticated technologies, being one of the first hospitals to implement electronic health record (EHR) technology in the late 1990s.

In February 2014, EDCO® Health Information Solutions was awarded patent number 2,606,033 from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for its medical record scanning and indexing technology, called Solarity®.  This technology improves efficiency and quality of the medical record scanning process, and does not require the manual separation of documents or use of labels, such as bar codes or form templates.  The Solarity technology and process, which received a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2013, enables the classification and separation of documents based on content as opposed to the appearance of the document.

ZirMed  announced that it has acquired the payment processing, patient eligibility and patient estimation business solutions owned by TransEngen Inc., a company located in Shelton, CT. The TransEngen solutions bring to ZirMed deep integration with practice management systems, expanded HIPAA- and PCI-compliant patient online bill pay capabilities, and a unique patient responsibility calculator. The acquired solutions also bring with them a large client base, including several enterprise clients.

eClinicalWorks® was named the most used system across Accountable Care Organization (ACO) functional categories among both electronic health record (EHR) and third-party vendors in a recent KLAS survey. KLAS, a research firm that rates healthcare technology to help providers make informed decisions, published the report in response to an increasing amount of physician-led ACOs. The report, titled “Physician ACOs 2014: Variations on the Accountable Care Theme,” surveyed nearly 50 ACO organizations to better understand physician-led ACOs and their supporting vendors.

Donato Tramuto, the CEO and Chairman of Physicians Interactive Inc. (PI), has been selected as one of four distinguished recipients of the 2014 Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. Tramuto joins former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton, Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and Grammy Award winner Tony Bennett as the 2014 honorees. The RFK Ripple of Hope Award recognizes leaders of the international business, entertainment and activist communities who demonstrate an unmatched commitment to social change. Honorees reflect the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s passion for equality, justice and basic human rights. It was created to honor the ideals Senator Kennedy cited in a speech at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 1966.
