HIMSS Conference – Health IT at the Right Time, Right Place
It is the new year and all thoughts now turn to getting ready for the HIMSS annual conference and exhibition. This year’s conference will be held in New Orleans, March 3 – 7. You can visit the HIMSS conference website or download a brochure.
The theme for this year’s event is Health IT: Right Time. Right Place. It’s On and judging from the educational sessions, keynotes and specialty programs being offered it certainly looks like the conference will live up to this billing.
We’ll be highlighting events and sessions leading up to the conference. Here’s a brief rundown of just a few of the conference events and sessions.
Daily Keynote Speakers
- Monday, March 4: Warner Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ochsner Health System.
- Tuesday, March 5: Eric J. Topol, West Endowed Chair of Innovative Medicine, Scripps Health and Professor of Genomics, The Scripps Research Institute Cardiologist
- Wednesday, March 6: President Bill Clinton, Founder of The William J. Clinton Foundation
- Thursday, March 7: Closing keynote is a he said/he said with notables  James Carville and Karl Rove debating politics, healthcare reform and more.

HIMSS Interoperability Showcase
The HIMSS Interoperability Showcaseâ„¢ offers demonstrations of live clinical information systems where users can play the role of patient, watching their PHR move across multiple points of care. Education sessions will also be offered. And new this year – participants in the education sessions can get continuing education units towards CPHIMS certification.
Senior IT Executive Sessions
The conference sessions for C-Suite executives tackling IT offers education and programming on a myriad of topics including:
- Extracting Value from Healthcare “Big Data” with Predictive Analytics
- Implementing Patient Engagement and Care Coordination Technologies for Improved Outcomes
- Actionable Analytics for Value-Based Purchasing, Readmissions and Business Intelligence
- Aligning IT Function using an IT Plan
Health IT Angel Venture Fair
Still in development, HIMSS is looking for early health IT start up companies to present and share their knowledge.
