In George W. Bush’s State of the Union Address on January 20, 2004, the President outlined his plan to ensure most Americans were on electronic health records within a decade, saying: “By computerizing health records, we can avoid dangerous medical mistakes, reduce costs, and improve care.” While many think the HITECH Act of 2009 herald the age of EHRs, the fact is that during his presidency, Bush challenged the U.S. to adopt and embrace EHRs, creating the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to oversee the process.
Eleven years later, G.W. Bush will address HIMSS15 attendees in Chicago as one of five conference Keynotes.
