It looks like transition to ICD-10 will not see another delay. Transition date is October 1, 2015. Here are three ICD-10 surveys that looked at readiness, attitudes, and concerns about the transition.
QualiTest ICD-10 Survey Results – April 2015
This survey was conducted in April of 2015 by Qualitest and is a follow up to their December 2014 survey. This survey shows that while it is perceived that ICD-10 will Go Live October 1, only 28% have performed Revenue Impact Testing.
Main Findings:
- Over 80% of respondents speculated that ICD-10 will “go live” on October 1, 2015. This was of particular note, considering that ICD-10 has been delayed two times already, and many critics gamble that ICD-10 implementation will be deferred yet again.
- Two-thirds of the respondents believe that their revenue will be impacted with the advent of ICD-10. However, only 28% have performed any Revenue Impact Testing with their Payers.
- 67% of the surveyed providers are relying solely on their Clearinghouses to conduct ICD-10 testing. This implies that providers are dependent that their clearinghouses to perform accurate and comprehensive ICD-10 Testing, rather than taking responsibility for their own testing.
- Only 28% of the providers use automated testing techniques to increase test coverage and improve efficiency and productivity. This is opposed to the 56% of respondents who reported that they are solely using manual testing to ensure that their ICD-10 testing will seamlessly integrate in both internal and external systems.
NueMD 2015 ICD-10 Industry Survey
NueMD conducted their third “Attitudes Towards ICD-10” survey to see how medical practices and healthcare professionals feel about the upcoming transition to ICD-10. The survey garnered a total of 1000 responses, primarily from small and medium-sized medical practices. It set out to:
- Gauge the overall level of stress introduced by the upcoming transition
- Learn about areas of concern, and
- Get a sense of preparedness in general
Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange ICD-10 Survey Results
In its advisory role under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) periodically brings to the attention of the Department of Health and Human Services issues related to Administrative Simplification and related areas that it believes merit review and consideration. Read the Comment Letter and Summary of Survey Results.
WEDI has been conducting ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS (ICD-10) readiness surveys since 2009 to gauge the status of industry progress and has recently completed analysis of the August 2014 survey. These surveys are critical to assessing industry readiness and to identify stakeholders that may be struggling with compliance. This survey used an abridged set of questions aimed mostly at status rather than approaches to compliance, and survey questions paralleled those in prior surveys to facilitate direct comparison.
