Fred Goldstein (@fsgoldstein), co-host of PopHealth Week, had the opportunity to catch up with ONC’s Donald Rucker shortly after he gave the keynote address at the HIMSS pre-conference NHIT Summit. Rucker was pleased to share the news that CMS and ONC have released major new rules giving Americans the right to have their electronic medical data on their smart phones as part of the 21st Century Cures Law allowing Americans more personal control over their healthcare. During the conversation Rucker spoke of requiring standardized Application Programming Interfaces or APIs for the first time, allowing new business models and apps to use them in order to get health data into the hands of patients.
