The public comment period for the 2023 Standards Version Advancement Process (SVAP) is now open. The SVAP allows Certified Health IT Developers to voluntarily update their Health IT Modules to newer versions of standards and provide these updates to their customers.
As of late January 2023, 38 Certified Health IT Developers and 50 Certified Health IT Modules had voluntarily updated to standards versions on the 2022 SVAP list, which are supported by test tools such as the Inferno (g)(10) Standardized API Test Kit. These early adopters of SVAP can enable customers to use products to consistently and reliably access, exchange, and use social determinants of health data, and other data elements included in United States Core Data for Interoperability version 2. In other cases, customers of Certified Health IT Developers that used SVAP will benefit from capabilities in newer implementation guides, such as the SMART Application Launch Release 2 and HL7® FHIR® Bulk Data Access version 2.
The 2023 SVAP public comment period will be open until May 22, at 11:59 P.M. ET. Please review the standards versions ONC is considering for SVAP 2023 and submit comments on the SVAP standards page. New standards versions are listed as ‘Standards Version Under Consideration.’
Please note that a user account is required to submit comments for the SVAP. Create a user account by clicking the Log In button located at the top right of the SVAP page.
Given this will be our third SVAP cycle and some Certified Health IT Developers have previously used SVAP, we welcome any comments or questions about the experience or decision to use SVAP. Let us know what you think.
And if you’re interested in seeing which Certified Health IT Developers and Health IT Modules have taken advantage of SVAP, you can download a report from the ONC’s Certified Health IT Products List. Simply select “SVAP Summary” from the “Select A File to Download” drop-down menu.
More information about the SVAP is available on the SVAP Fact Sheet.
