Physicians Business Network Achieves EHNAC Accreditation

HNAP accreditation ensures adherence to health data processing standards and compliance with security infrastructure and integrity requirements

OVERLAND PARK, KS, August 5, 2013 – Physicians Business Network (PBN), a proven leader in helping physicians optimize their practice’s financial performance, announced that it has achieved full accreditation with the Healthcare Network Accreditation Program (HNAP) for Medical Billers from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). EHNAC’s HNAP accreditation recognizes excellence in healthcare data processing and transactions and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.

Through its consultative review process leading up to accreditation, EHNAC evaluated PBN in several areas including privacy measures, systems availability, and security infrastructure. EHNAC also reviewed PBN’s processes for managing and transferring protected health information. EHNAC determined that PBN meets or exceeds all EHNAC criteria and industry standards. Through completion of EHNAC’s rigorous accreditation process and participation in EHNAC’s comprehensive, objective evaluation of its business, PBN demonstrated its ongoing strict adherence to industry standards and full HIPAA compliance to its clients and other constituents.

Jud Neal, president and CEO of PBN and president of the Healthcare Billing & Management Association, the non-profit trade association for medical billers, addressed how achieving EHNAC accreditation fits in to PBN’s business philosophy: “PBN is honored to be recognized by EHNAC for exceeding industry security standards for health data processing and HIPAA compliance. For the last 30 years, PBN’s singular mission has been to enable medical professionals to focus on the primary objectives of their practice. Given the healthcare industry’s evolving regulatory requirements, we believe that third-party accreditation allows our medical billing customers to keep that focus with the added peace of mind of knowing their patients’ protected health information is secure. This accreditation achievement is a logical extension of the ‘Proof… Not Promises,’ performance-oriented business philosophy that guides our day-to-day commitment to our customers’ success.”

PBN’s EHNAC HNAP accreditation is a part of its overall commitment to quality within the context of its larger quality control and compliance programs. In addition to its new EHNAC HNAP accreditation, PBN was the first business of its kind to achieve full ISO certification in the United States and has maintained its certification continuously since April 2006.

“At a time of heightened regulatory concerns, we applaud responsible healthcare organizations like PBN.  By taking the extra steps to achieve accreditation, their stakeholders and clients can be confident that PBN adheres to the latest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality,” says Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC. “In order to earn EHNAC HNAP accreditation, organizations are required to demonstrate excellence and a commitment to ensuring the security and privacy of health data processing and transactions for their customers.”
