The event, which runs from 11-2:30 est, boasts a triptych of sessions on meaningful use and the ACA, HIE, and patient engagement.
During the first, ‘Industry catalysts: The impact of meaningful use and the Affordable Care Act,’ Rob Tagalicod and Elizabeth Holland will discuss the building blocks of HIT, lessons learned in Stage 1, challenges stage 2 brings, and tactics for leveraging health IT infrastructure to meet ACA expectations. Tagalicod is the director of CMS Office of Health Standards and Services and within the same office, Holland serves as director of the HIT initiatives group.
Dan Paoletti is next up. CEO of the Ohio Health Information Partnership, Paoletti will present the session ‘Challenges and opportunities bridging private and public HIEs,’ with a focus on Ohio’s State-Level HIE, aka SLHIE’s data exchange work across public and private hospitals and the impact on population health.
The third and final session of the virtual briefing, ‘eConnecting with Consumers: Provider/patient engagement through health IT’, patient engagement sage Lygeia Ricciardi, ONC’s acting director of consumer health, will discuss the ways that a digitized healthcare system enables patient engagement. Tying into the first two sessions, Ricciardi will explain how meaningful use and the ACA aim to make communication between providers and patients more pervasive, with an end-goal of bolstering patient care.
