Posnack Named Acting Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy at HHS

Steven Posnack, MS, MHS has been named Acting Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and the National Coordinator for Health Information technology for the Department of Health and Human Services. He will lead the execution of ASTP’s mission and represent its interests at a national and international level. Steve will oversee ASTP’s federal policy coordination, regulatory development, public-private initiatives, and the HHS-wide functions led by HHS’ Chief Technology Officer, Chief Data Officer, and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. Posnack succeeds Micky Tripathi, tapped by former President Joe Biden, and who resigned at the end of that administration.

Posnack’s career with ONC and ASTP now spans 20-years beginning in 2005 as a Policy Analyst shows him to have worked in the agency since a year after it began. Steve has led and created initiatives in a variety of technology and policy positions, including serving as the Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT, Executive Director of the Office of Technology, Director of the Office of Standards and Technology, Director of the Federal Policy Division, and Senior Policy Analyst.

As we wait for communication or signs on the direction this administration will go, having Posnack will certainly help with growth and continuations of staying on track.
