Michigan – Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC)
Great Lakes Health Connect (@GLHC_HIE) is one of the largest and most successful Health Information Exchanges in the country and is growing rapidly. GLHC is committed to creating care-connected communities across Michigan. Their vision is to enhance patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs across the continuum of care. A lot has been happening within the HIE. Here is a look at some of the latest.
Embracing Purpose & Reflecting Change
As noted above, since its inception, GLHC has had tremendous growth, expansion and change. To that end Great Lakes Health Connect recently announced the debut of their refreshed brand image. The intent behind making this change is to more clearly reflect and communicate the breadth and depth of services, stakeholder value, and commitment to community that GLHC works hard as an organization to deliver each and every day.
CHIME Fall Forum Interview Series: Doug Dietzman, Executive Director, Great Lakes Health Connect
Galen Healthcare Solutions, an IT technical and professional services and solutions company, interviewed several CIOs to discuss their experiences for their CHIME CIO Interview Series 2017. What are healthcare’s CIOs leading initiatives today? What’s top of mind for them? This past November, Doug Dietzman, Executive Director of Great Lakes Health Connect, was interviewed for the series. In the interview, Dietzman discusses how being a nonprofit has made GLHC more in tune with their consumers; why he welcomes the scrutiny that’s put on HIEs; and the unique approach GLHC takes to demonstrate the value of their services. We also highlighted Doug in November’s State HIE News and Updates Post.
“There’s nothing about HIEs that have a right to exist just because we’re HIEs. We should only exist if we are indeed adding value” Doug Dietzman @GLHC_HIE#CHIME#CIO#Interview#HIEhttps://t.co/iiOkThAMAOpic.twitter.com/MDH9Q4L6gS

Maybe even better than his interview, are the Dr. Seuss-esque rhyming abilities of Doug and the GLHC team in their holiday message. Don’t miss this whimsical yet informative look back on the organization’s accomplishments this past year and good wishes for the new year.
Brian Mack, Manager, Marketing and Communications
Brian Mack is Manager, Marketing and Communications for GLHC and regularly writes for the GLHC blog, The Exchange. When not habitually oversharing on GLHC’s Social Media accounts, Brian is an active advocate and fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association of America. In 2014 he became the first volunteer in Alzheimer’s Association history to receive donations from all 50 states, 8 foreign countries, and all 7 continents (including Antarctica) in a single fundraising year. Another exciting first for Brian was his recent selection as a 2018 HIMSS Social Media Ambassador. According to HIMSS, “HIMSS Social Media Ambassadors are chosen for their social media savvy and unique perspectives on important health IT challenges impacting quality care delivery. Each ambassador brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and a powerful network that enables a proactive and far-reaching discussion on the issues you will see at this year’s conference and the industry at large.”
It is a tremendous honor to be included among this group of #HealthIT Luminaries as a #HIMSS18 Social Media Ambassador! Thanks to you @MichaelGaspar, and the entire @HIMSS team for the opportunity, and all you do to advance our industry. https://t.co/eCAT8UnybA
