Star-studded Lineup to Provide Keynotes at CHIME18 in San Diego

Sanjay Gupta. Emily Chang. Daniel Pink. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) (@CIOCHIME) will feature these acclaimed journalists and authors at the 2018 CHIME Fall CIO Forum in San Diego. From a welcoming reception on the USS Midway on Oct. 30 until the closing Most Wired awards celebration on Nov. 2, the forum promises to be packed with thought-provoking and memorable events.

Daniel H. Pink, CHIME18’s opening keynote speaker on Oct. 31, is the author of six provocative books on work, business and behavior, including New York Times bestsellers When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, A Whole New Mind, Drive and To Sell Is Human. His books have won multiple awards and have been translated into 37 languages. Pink was host and co-executive producer of “Crowd Control,” a National Geographic Television series on behavioral science. He also appears frequently on NPR’s “Hidden Brain,” the PBS NewsHour, and other TV and radio networks in the U.S. and abroad.

Five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Emily Chang will provide the second keynote on Nov. 1. She is executive producer and anchor of “Bloomberg Technology,” a live daily show about technology, innovation and the future of business, and host of the interview series, “Studio 1.0.” Business Insider called her “the star Bloomberg anchor that everyone in tech needs to know” and she was ranked No. 6 in the “Influence Index” of top journalists followed by major CEOs on Twitter. Her 2018 expose, Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys’ Club in Silicon Valley, became an instant national bestseller. Currently, she sits on the board of BUILD, a national nonprofit organization that uses entrepreneurship to excite and propel disengaged, low-income students through high school to college success.

Sanjay Gupta, M.D., CNN’s award-winning chief medical correspondent, will talk about how he balances his two careers: medicine and media. Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, regularly reports on natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world. He has also covered a wide range of health topics – including disease outbreaks, the opioid crisis and medical marijuana – since joining CNN in 2001.

“We are thrilled to have these three iconic thinkers lead off each day at the forum,” said Michael Martz, chair of the CHIME18 planning committee and senior vice president and CIO at Mount Nittany Health. “Each of these speakers is adept at making complex topics like healthcare understandable. But more importantly, they recognize that healthcare is about people – patients, providers and professionals like our members who work tirelessly to help make lives better.”

The forum will include sunrise sessions and 16 track sessions presented by CHIME members and CHIME Foundation firm members on topics to that reflect the challenges that CIOs face and strategies to triumph against them. Leadership from the Edge, a program that highlights three innovative and out-of-the-box presentations, will return for its second year. CHIME18 will also feature special events through the Women of CHIME initiative.

Besides the educational programs, CHIME has scheduled a golf outing, a public service opportunity, a welcome reception aboard the USS Midway, networking opportunities, galas in honor of the CHIME Foundation’s 25th anniversary and focus groups. The forum will wrap up on Nov. 2 when CHIME reveals the winners of CHIME’s first HealthCare’s Most Wired awards during a special presentation.
