State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. The Hawai`i Health Information Exchange (Hawai`i HIE)

The Hawai‘i HIE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2006 to enhance care coordination, to improve the health outcomes of Hawai‘i’s patients and reduce the cost of care for both patients and healthcare providers. To support these goals, in September 2009, Hawai‘i HIE was designated by the state to develop a seamless, effective, and secure statewide health information exchange that ultimately links to the nationwide health information network. Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange is a robust, interoperable data exchange system that enables all health care providers, health plans, clinics, and hospitals to contribute and access complete health information with confidence. This secure exchange empowers participants to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of whole-person care, enhancing health outcomes for patients and reducing health care costs for the community.

Hawaii’s HIE Leveraging Technology to Improve Patient Identification – Hawaii Health Information Exchange is taking action to improve patient identification and provider data accuracy. HHIE is working with NextGate to implement a cloud-based EMPI and provider registry to create a sustainable statewide system of coordinated care.

California – SacValley MedShare

SacValley MedShare (@svmshie) is a member of the California Association of Health Information Exchanges (CAHIE) and serves the 16-county region of California, north of Sacramento, which includes the North Central Valley and the surrounding mountainous terrain. Its region is largely rural and mountainous, with travel limited by climate and season in much of the area. Good communication is critical to coordinate care between primary care, specialists, hospital providers, and skilled nursing care facilities that fulfill a vital role in post-discharge care for many patients.

SacValley MedShare is Hiring a Business Development Manager – Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Business Development Manager is responsible for providing leadership and drive the execution of multiple strategic planning and technical development activities ensuring alignment is maintained between internal and external partners for creating effective health information exchange (HIE) capabilities.

California – Manifest Medex

Manifest MedEx is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health information exchanges (HIEs), combining 11.7 million claims records from Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross and 5 million clinical patient records from 150 participating partners. Manifest MedEx supports physicians, nurses, hospitals and health plans in sharing critical health information to ensure that patients receive the safest, highest-quality care possible. The California Integrated Data Exchange and Inland Empire Health Information Exchange merged to create Manifest Medex.

Arizona – Health Current

Health Current (@AZHealthCurrent), is a partner that gives providers the information they need to make better clinical decisions and keep people healthy. The HIE believes more complete information is more meaningful. It makes healthcare transformation possible. And Health Current is central to this progress, integrating information technology and care delivery to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Health Share Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HSX)

PA-HSX-200HealthShare Exchange (@HealthShareExch) is the greater Philadelphia region’s health information exchange for the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region. HSX is a unique, membership-dues-supported nonprofit formed by the Delaware Valley’s hospitals/health systems and healthcare insurers that links the electronic medical record systems of different hospital health systems, medical centers, and clinics — and the claims data of healthcare insurers — to make this information accessible at inpatient and outpatient points of care, including medical practice offices.

Ohio – CliniSync

OH-CliniSync-200CliniSync (@CliniSync) is a nonprofit, independent, private organization originally funded from HITECH and the ONC. The Ohio Health Information Partnership assisted providers in EHR adoption and the infrastructure for statewide HIE. It was named CliniSync, which signifies Clinical data synchronization.

Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN)

wi-shin-twitterIn October 2010 Wisconsin officially announced its intention to designate WISHIN (@WISHIN_Pulse), a not-for-profit organization formed by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Medical Society, Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality, and Wisconsin Health Information Organization, as the State-designated entity to govern statewide HIE. DE on October 25, 2010. WISHIN is responsible for implementing Wisconsin’s Strategic and Operational Plan. The plan requires multi-stakeholder collaboration and emphasizes ongoing development of government and policy structures.

New York -Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY)

NY-SHINY-200The SHIN-NY is the only HIE that provides universal access regardless of network or EHR system. New York State has made a significant investment in the SHIN-NY and in 2016 they set a goal of connecting 100% of the PPS across the state to the SHIN-NY. The eight RHIOs that make up the SHIN-NY are working directly with the PPS organizations to meet their needs.

Hixny Achieves First HITRUST CSF Certification Among HIEs in New York State – Hixny announced that it is the first health information exchange in New York State to successfully meet the requirements of HITRUST CSF® certification on Version 9.1 for patient information security. The framework for HITRUST certification is continuously improved upon and updated, making it the most comprehensive security framework in the U.S. healthcare industry.

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN)

MI-MiHIN-200The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (@MiHIN) is Michigan’s initiative to continuously improve health care quality, efficiency, and patient safety by promoting secure, electronic exchange of health information through the MiHIN Health Information Services Cloud (HISC). MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population.

MiHIN Partners with Vlasic & Roth LLC to Accelerate Technology and Services – Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services is pleased to announce a new partnership with Dr. Jeff Vlasic and Michael Roth of Vlasic & Roth LLC to help with the commercialization of MiHIN’s successful technology and services.

Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)

CORHIO200CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.

CORHIO and New West Physicians Partner to Improve Patient Care and Efficiency – CORHIO recently announced that New West Physicians will soon have access to secure data in CORHIO’s health information exchange, one of the largest HIE networks in the United States. The data exchange service will give New West Physicians, which includes 20 primary care offices in the Denver metro area, secure access to important information such as lab results, updated patient records and demographic information. This ensures every care provider in a patient’s chain of care has consistent and current information, and that their records are more secure and accessible than with paper files.

Michigan – Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC)

Great Lakes Health Connect (@GLHC_HIE) is one of the largest and most successful Health Information Exchanges in the country and is growing rapidly. GLHC is committed to creating care-connected communities across Michigan. Their vision is to enhance patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs across the continuum of care.

Big News to Share about VIPR – The GLHC community health record, know as the Virtual Integrated Patient Record (VIPR) is getting a makeover in January 2019. The changes are in direct response to evolving needs of the community. GLHC will continue to provide the best technology and customer support for years to come. VIPR 2019 will help support how organizations continue to reinvent care delivery, enhance the care experience, and reduce the cost of care.

Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN)

KS-KHINKHIN (@khininfo) capitalizes on the unique strengths that local communities and regions bring to the HIE and ensure that individual regions or communities have the decision-making authority to address local or regional health-care initiatives.

7 Health Information Exchanges Connect to Military Health System – Providers at the Military Health System (MHS) will now have access to patient EHRs from seven physician-led health information exchanges (HIEs) across the country to enable well-informed care delivery. The Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN), the eHealth Exchange, and KAMMCO Health Solutions assisted in facilitating the connection to improve health data exchange for MHS providers.

Missouri – Missouri Health Connect (MHC)

MO-HC_twitterMissouri Health Connect (@HealthConnectMO), a non‐profit organization, is the state‐designated HIE organization that provides a secure and private electronic platform for sharing health information.

Disaster Planning & Site Downtime: How MHC is There to Help – During a disaster, scheduled/unscheduled downtime or when unable to access your health organization’s EHR system, MHC’s clinical portal, MHC CareView, is available to quickly access the MHC network and even your own organization’s health records. MHC CareView is easily utilized and provides a patient’s health record to help the physicians deliver quality health care.
