State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. San Diego Health Connect

San Diego Health Connect exists to improve the quality and cost of our healthcare system. The organization believes that community-wide health information exchange is the foundation for quality and cost improvement. When every individual’s health information is securely available to their doctors when and where they need it doctors can provide more informed care, duplication of tests and procedure decreases and costs go down.

Interview at SHIEC with Daniel Chavez, Executive Director of San Diego Health Connect – Daniel Chavez, Executive Director of San Diego Health Connect, gives an update on the San Diego HIE. It started as an original Beacon Community Grant and has one of the largest veterans and department of defense communities in the country. The HIE is currently working on individual provider participation after securing the majority of hospitals, qualified health centers, counties, and insurers in their community.

California – SacValley MedShare

SacValley MedShare (@svmshie) is a member of the California Association of Health Information Exchanges (CAHIE) and serves the 16-county region of California, north of Sacramento, which includes the North Central Valley and the surrounding mountainous terrain. Its region is largely rural and mountainous, with travel limited by climate and season in much of the area. Good communication is critical to coordinate care between primary care, specialists, hospital providers, and skilled nursing care facilities that fulfill a vital role in post-discharge care for many patients.

SVMS Is Live With CAHIE’s PULSE System – SacValley MedShare has created an eHealth eXchange connection to the CAHIE PULSE system. PULSE is the Patient Unified Lookup System for Emergencies. This exciting leap forward for the patients of the members of SacValley MedShare to assist EMS workers during a disaster.

healtheConnect Alaska

healtheConnect Alaska (@akehealth) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, organized and managed by Alaskans and tasked by the State of Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services, to provide safe, secure transport for health information in order to improve quality and safety of patient care and increase efficiencies for hospitals and medical practices. healtheConnect Alaska provides health information exchange and direct secure messaging services to more than 20 hospitals and 450 healthcare organizations across Alaska.

They have an entirely new staff to start anew and are listening to the participants to provide more value that they need. A lesson learned by the HIE – If you build it, that doesn’t mean they will come.

HealtHIE Nevada

HealtHIE Nevada (@HealtHIENevada) is a private, nonprofit, community-based HIE dedicated to connecting healthcare organizations by managing real time, secure, and accurate exchange of clinical information. HealtHIE Nevada operates throughout the entire state, and is the only HIE open and available to the entire Nevada healthcare community.

California – Manifest Medex

Manifest MedEx is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health information exchanges (HIEs), combining 11.7 million claims records from Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross and 5 million clinical patient records from 150 participating partners. Manifest MedEx supports physicians, nurses, hospitals and health plans in sharing critical health information to ensure that patients receive the safest, highest-quality care possible. The California Integrated Data Exchange and Inland Empire Health Information Exchange merged to create Manifest Medex.

New administrator features coming from MX this fall – Health data is only valuable when it is useful to your team. With that in mind MX has an exciting upgrade to MX Access, our longitudinal health record service, rolling out this fall based on participant feedback. The new MX Access is launching this fall. We’ll be phasing out the old system after converting all participants.

Arizona – Health Current

Health Current (@AZHealthCurrent), is a partner that gives providers the information they need to make better clinical decisions and keep people healthy. The HIE believes more complete information is more meaningful. It makes healthcare transformation possible. And Health Current is central to this progress, integrating information technology and care delivery to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Maine – HealthInfoNet

HealthInfoNet (@hinfonet) is a Maine-based, independent nonprofit designated by the State of Maine to operate Maine’s statewide health information exchange. The HIE links medical information from separate health care sites to create a single electronic patient health record. This record is accessible to a patient’s authorized health care providers to support treatment. HealthInfoNet provides a secure, standardized electronic system where health care providers can share important patient information, giving them the tools they need to make more informed treatment decisions, especially in an emergency.

HIN Joins SHIEC – HealthInfoNet has joined the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC), a national collaborative representing health information exchanges (HIEs). Other new members include OneHealthPort (Washington) and WISHIN, (Wisconsin).

Texas – Paso del Norte Health Information Exchange (PHIX)

The Paso del Norte Health Information Exchange (@PHIXNetwork) is a unique collaborative of major health care leaders in El Paso. PHIX pulls health information from the EHRs of all providers in the PHIX network and stores it in a centralized record so that patients’ health information in one place. PHIX provides HIPAA- compliant email and supports physician practices in optimizing their utilization of EHR technology.

Health Share Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HSX)

PA-HSX-200HealthShare Exchange (@HealthShareExch) is the greater Philadelphia region’s health information exchange for the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region. HSX is a unique, membership-dues-supported nonprofit formed by the Delaware Valley’s hospitals/health systems and healthcare insurers that links the electronic medical record systems of different hospital health systems, medical centers, and clinics — and the claims data of healthcare insurers — to make this information accessible at inpatient and outpatient points of care, including medical practice offices.

HSX Partners with MANNA

Ohio – CliniSync

OH-CliniSync-200CliniSync (@CliniSync) is a nonprofit, independent, private organization originally funded from HITECH and the ONC. The Ohio Health Information Partnership assisted providers in EHR adoption and the infrastructure for statewide HIE. It was named CliniSync, which signifies Clinical data synchronization.

Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN)

wi-shin-twitterIn October 2010 Wisconsin officially announced its intention to designate WISHIN (@WISHIN_Pulse), a not-for-profit organization formed by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Medical Society, Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality, and Wisconsin Health Information Organization, as the State-designated entity to govern statewide HIE. DE on October 25, 2010. WISHIN is responsible for implementing Wisconsin’s Strategic and Operational Plan. The plan requires multi-stakeholder collaboration and emphasizes ongoing development of government and policy structures.

Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN)

DHIN-twitterDelaware Health Information Network’s (@DHIN_HIE) roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses the state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information. In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation.

DHIN and LegalShield to Launch Innovative Fraud Protection Product – DHIN and LegalShield announced that the two companies have reached an agreement to build a unique identity theft protection product. They will couple DHIN’s Health Check Alert* with LegalShield’s IDShield, giving consumers in Delaware and the surrounding region peace of mind about the safety of their personal data and a one-stop shop to protect their health care and personal information.

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN)

MI-MiHIN-200The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (@MiHIN) is Michigan’s initiative to continuously improve health care quality, efficiency, and patient safety by promoting secure, electronic exchange of health information through the MiHIN Health Information Services Cloud (HISC). MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population.

Internship Opportunities at MiHIN – Interns at Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN), commonly called MiHINterns, provide a fresh perspective on healthcare issues and create innovative solutions that help MiHIN transform the healthcare industry. GaHIN’s two products, GeorgiaDirect and Georgia ConnectedCare, connect providers statewide and nationally and are free for credentialed, authorized Georgia users.

Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)

CORHIO200CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.

State Innovation Model Funds First Blockchain-Enabled Data Aggregation and Reporting Collaboration in Colorado – Three of Colorado’s clinical health data organizations, CORHIO, Quality Health Network (QHN) and Colorado Community Managed Care Network (CCMCN), announced this month that they have partnered with Denver-based BurstIQ to enable aggregation, consolidation, and sharing of clinical quality measures (CQMs) data across the state of Colorado. The project is funded by SIM, a federally funded, Governor’s Office initiative, that is helping hundreds of primary care practices and four community mental health centers integrate behavioral and physical health and learn how to succeed with alternative payment models.

South Dakota Health Link

sd-healthlink-logoSouth Dakota Health Link (@SDHealthLink) connects hospitals, federally qualified health centers, primary care providers, specialists, labs and pharmacies as well as public health and other state agencies. It’s a one-of-a-kind network that allows secure consultations and the sharing of test results with other providers for better patient outcomes. Health Link is provided by the South Dakota Department of Health and guided by an active advisory council working toward a common goal: Foster the sharing of information through a secure platform to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care provided to all citizens.

South Dakota Health Link Fall Forum Announces Speakers – SDHL recently announced that there will be an interactive discussion with a panel of health care executives to start the day off. Dr. Andrew Burchett, Medical Information Office at Avera Health and Brian Ahier, Senior Strategic Planner at Health Catalyst will also be speaking at the forum.
