DirectTrust Identifies Six Trends for Electronic HIE and Interoperability in 2016

With 2015 rapidly winding down, DirectTrust released a list of six trends it predicts for interoperable electronic exchange of health information during the coming year. DirectTrust is a health care industry alliance created by and for participants in the Direct exchange network used for secure, interoperable exchange of personal health information (PHI) between provider organizations, and between provider and patients, for the purpose of improved coordination of care.

DirectTrust Offers Three Keys to Improving Privacy and Security Protections for Electronic HIE

Increasing reports of cyber theft of patient information via hacking—most recently of UCLA Health System, EHR vendor Medical Informatics Engineering and its patient portal NoMoreClipboard, and, earlier, of Anthem and Premera—suggest these data breaches will continue as criminals increasingly seeking out medical data because the data contain links to financial and insurance information.

EHNAC and DirectTrust to Conduct a Pilot

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a non-profit standards development organization and accrediting body for organizations that electronically exchange healthcare data, and DirectTrust, a non-profit trade alliance that advances secure, health information exchange via the Direct Protocol, announced they are developing an accreditation program for personal health record (PHR) and patient portal vendors.
