About The Position
This position serves as the Executive Director, Office of Technology and reports to the Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT. In this capacity the incumbent serves as principal advisor to the National Coordinator for Health IT, Principal Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT, Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT, Deputy National Coordinator for Operations, and other executives and chiefs on all issues and activities associated with health information technology, standards, certification, strategic initiatives, and interoperability.
The incumbent functions as the principal advisor to the National Coordinator for Health IT and Deputy National Coordinator for Health IT on health information technology matters, which impact ONC policy, direction, and long-range program goals. The incumbent provides executive direction and control over ONC’s technology portfolio, and leads one of ONC’s two main program offices.
The incumbent fosters health information innovation, advises and provides leadership for programs and activities, which encourage development and adoption of health information technology standards, which are essential to healthcare powered by technology.
The incumbent provides executive leadership and managerial direction to professional, technical, and support personnel engaged in a variety of substantive activities related to the planning, development, execution, and coordination of health information technology, including the overall administration of the ONC Health IT Certification Program.
The incumbent evaluates ONC’s overall technology efforts and activities and, as necessary, develops, establishes or recommends heath information standards, programs, pilot initiatives, and similarly framed investments to the National Coordinator for Health IT.
The incumbent meets and collaborates with high level external stakeholders with expertise on issues related to the assessment of new health information technology programs and on issues related to standards, certification, and technology based strategic initiatives. These collaborations focus on identifying, tracking and supporting innovations in health information technology and enable ONC to accomplish its mission and ensure all ONC activities are of the highest technical caliber. These collaborations also allow ONC to catalyze and lead the modernization of health information technology standards and foster innovative partnerships with other federal agencies and Departments.
