Consulting is an entirely different experience than having a full time position. If you are someone looking to break into consulting for the first time there are important things you must consider. First, keep your rate expectations realistic. A client willing to take a chance on a first-time consultant will not be willing to pay what they’d pay someone seasoned. Second, be as open as possible to different geographies and time zones. You can be more choosey as you get experience, but in the beginning, flexibility is important. Third, contract work moves fast. Make sure you’ve gathered your references ahead of time, and be highly responsive to your recruiter’s phone calls and emails.

- Extracting and formatting data from operational EHR, including (but not limited to) Meditech, CPSI, Medent, eClinicalWorks, McKesson Soarian, McKesson HPM)
- Knowledge of different ETL tools (PL/SQL, SSIS, T-SQL, Data Migrator, etc.)
- Validation and audit process of data
- Analysis of the native EHR
- GL expense and revenue experience
- Analysis of the data structure
- Assisting in building cross-walks of the data
- Extract automation for extended use
- Provide transfer of knowledge, documentation and training
- Identify and mitigate risk factors
- Strong customer service skills
- Effective communications
- Project management skills
