Today’s Tip from Patrick:
I try to apply the Keep It Simple (KIS) philosophy to all facets of my personal and professional life, and when it comes to interviewing I believe there are three key segments.
1. Interview Preparation: Do your homework and have at least a 10,000 foot view of the company, products, and services they provide. This will immediately help you make a positive first impression, as it shows respect for the interviewer’s time.
2. Interview: Be ready to address your standard interview questions, but most importantly let the interview(s) know who you are and what you bring to the table. By taking this approach, you will tend to come across as genuine and authentic instead of scripted.
3. Interview Follow-Up: I’ve found that in business, people have become so dependent on technology that the personal touch is a lost art. That’s why I always advise taking the time to write a personalized thank you note to the interviewer. It’s a great way to leave a lasting impression on a decision maker.
