American Well (@americanwell), a U.S. telehealth platform, announced that according to App Annie, the mobile performance standard, American Well is the #1 telehealth platform in the US calculated by combined iOS and Google Play downloads.1 American Well’s consumer app, Amwell, was previously named the most popular telehealth app in 2014, 2015 and 2016 in the U.S.2 Amwell is free to download from the App Store or Google Play and gives people the ability to see a US board-certified doctor or therapist of their choosing by video, in less than three minutes on average.

Advanced video technology bringing virtual Santa visits to Shriners Hospitals for Children
Global technology services and solutions provider, Dimension Data, and Shriners Hospitals for Children will bring virtual visits with Santa Claus to young patients and their families across four Shriners Hospital locations on Dec. 11 and 12. Instead of the traditional reindeer and sleigh, Santa and his workshop will be carried to each location via the same telehealth technology used to connect medical professionals with patients at off-site locations.

U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Walmart Announce Telehealth Collaboration to Reach Underserved Veterans
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Walmart announced an innovative collaboration to offer VA-led telehealth services to reach underserved Veterans. The pilot will kick off in targeted locations that consider the number of Veterans and the health resources offered. The final locations selected will be announced at a later date. The collaboration includes donated space and operational support by Walmart for VA-led telehealth services.

Beckers reports that while most telehealth vendors struggle to offer a full range of virtual care services today, recent consolidation among leading companies may change this trend, according to a KLAS Research report.

Teladoc (TDOC) Surges 64% in a Year: Can the Rally Continue?
Teladoc, Inc. (@TeladocHealth) has been in investors’ good books, courtesy of a strong and growing business in the telehealth industry that is rapidly expanding. Despite incurring net loss over the past several years, investors are impressed with this telehealth company’s revenue CAGR of 82% during the 2013-2017 period. Notably, the company’s net loss can be primarily attributed to high expenses on marketing and business development, which are expected to pay off soon.
