Congratulations to the Hospital Leaders in EHR Adoption
This week US News & World Report published the honors of “Most Connected Hospitals,” with 156 hospitals finding its way on the list for “solid medicine and early adoption of information technology”. These top hospitals have national ranking in the 2012-13 US News Best Hospitals and/or Best Children’s Hospitals, or they have earned designation of high performance in one or more medical specialties. Along with their rankings they are leaders in  EHR adoption which means meeting HITECH’s meaningful use.
Hospitals were dubbed leaders by meeting two criteria. They had met meaningful use and HIMSS Analytics stage 6 or 7 by July 10th. Meaningful Use is managed under the CMS EHR Incentive program. HIMSS Analytics adoption stages rate hopsitals on a scale from 0-7. Zero considers the hospital to have no EHR adoption while stage 7 meets their standard for full use across the hospital.
