DEA and HHS Extend Telemedicine Flexibilities through 2025
In 2023, in response to a set of proposed telemedicine rules, DEA received more than 38,000 comments and held two days of public listening sessions. In light of that feedback and discussion, and to give DEA time to consider a new path forward for telemedicine, DEA and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) extended current telemedicine flexibilities through the end of 2024.

New Continuing Resolution Passes, Keeps Some Telehealth Flexibilities Alive
The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and ATA Action respond to passage of a slimmed-down, short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) by Congress. The bill includes extension of the Medicare telehealth flexibilities and the Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCAH) program through March 31, 2025.

Defining the Industry According to the AAFP

Telemedicine is the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a distance. It occurs using a telecommunications infrastructure between a patient (at an originating or spoke site) and a physician or other practitioner licensed to practice medicine (at a distant or hub site).

Virtual Care is a patient service model for healthcare providers.

Telehealth refers to a broad collection of electronic and telecommunications technologies that support health care delivery and services from distant locations. Telehealth technologies support virtual medical, health, and education services.
